Christmas Outfits, Customer Creation and New Years Wish for you

The last day of 2011. Seems like this year went by so fast. For me this has been the "Year of the Babies". Starting in January with the birth of my first granddaughter and then later the birth of my twin grandbabies (a boy and a girl) in April. Babies bring such joy in a family and we are so blessed with these three little ones. I did manage to do some sewing and hope to work on a couple of new patterns in 2012.

I wish you all a very blessed and prosperous 2012. I know there may be some who have had a rough year. I pray that you will trust in God and know he is there for you in any circumstance.

These are five outfits I made for my grandchildren and two others that are like family. They are made from Fabric Finder's corduoroy. The girl's dresses are an adaption of one of my patterns and the boy's made using The Children's Corner Johnny pattern.

This is a Tana Tutu Dress made by a customer. This little girl is so precious and the dress is so adorable on her. I always love getting pictures from customers.

Thanksgiving Outfits

These are my cute little grandbabies wearing the Thanksgiving outfits I made for them. They keep me very busy and I am enjoying every minute I spend with them. I decided a few days before Thanksgiving to make them matching outfits. It was great to get in my sewing room.

The girls have reversible dresses made using the Sunny Wrap Dress pattern using Fabric Finders pique and my grandson's is made using the Johnny pattern.

This dress is made from the Annette Pattern. I added straps instead of using the loops and ribbons at the shoulder as well as a ruffle.

Riley Top and Karen Capri Pants with a little something extra

I've always liked to try different things with patterns so they can be used over and over and have a different look. For this outfit, I combined two patterns - Riley Top for the top and Karen Capri for the pants and added a smocked insert along the bottom of both. I'll put a turtleneck under the top for cooler weather. I thought this would be a good fabric choice for Fall and into the Spring.

LSU Dresses for my granddaughters

I managed to find a little sewing time to make these two LSU dresses for my granddaughters. I know I have neglected blogging, facebooking sewing and designing. It's been a busy year with the 3 grandbabies. They grow so fast and I try to spend as much time as I can with them. For that reason, I am going to put the pattern designing on hold temporarily; at least for the rest of this year. I have so many ideas for patterns that I hope to begin trying in 2012.

I finally got back in the sewing room to start working on some things for the grandbabies. My embroidery machine was in the shop but is working great now. I made this for my twin grandbabies (boy and girl) to support their mom who is a coach I can't wait to take them to the games.

A customer emailed me this picture of the dress she made using the McKensie Pattern. It's a great pattern to use up scraps. It takes very little fabric and you can mix and match patterns and prints. The added buttons are a great touch.

The Dodie Sundress Pattern is now available in my Etsy shop and soon to be available at some of the retailers. It's a quick and easy dress to make. It doesn't take alot of fabric and scraps can be used for the bodice and straps. Add some embroidery or trim to the bodice for a different look. A great dress for summer fun.

This is the Dodie Sundress made by Nicole at Cole's Creations.

She added some buttons and trim to the bodice to give it a unique look.

The original draft was shorter so she added a ruffle for the needed length. The final draft will be longer.

Here is a picture of my new pattern - Dodie. It's a very easy sundress that has lots of possibilities. Because it uses very little fabric, you can use scraps especially for the bodice and straps. The only difference between this and the final version is the length (I will be adding length to the final version).

I'm waiting on one tester's comments before I make the final changes and finish the cover before it will be available.

Dodie - New Pattern Coming Soon

I've been very busy lately. I now have 3 grandchildren - a girl born in January and twins (boy and girl) born at the end of April. Along with loving on the new babies, I have been working on a new pattern. Of course, it's named after one of my grandbabies - Dodie. It's a sundress in sizes 1 through 6.

It should be ready for testing next week. I'll post when it is available.

Bishop style dresses are one of my favorites especially for infants. I decided to pull out the pleater and make something special for my new granddaughter. I added the little shoes and bow to complete the look. This was my first attempt at shoes but the pattern I purchased on Etsy was very easy to make. The first pair were too small so I made another a couple of sizes bigger and they fit.

It is a fully lined dress with a ruffled sleeve, side pleats and pockets. Add a turtleneck and leggings for the fall. You can eliminate the sleeves, pockets and/or pleats for a different look. Add embroidery/applique to the front or pockets for extra detail.

Short Vacation now back to Working on the new pattern

I spent a long weekend in Las Vegas this past week. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time. Here are a few of the pictures.

Since I got back I have gotten most of the tester comments and some pictures for the new pattern, Marley. I will be working on revisions this week and weekend and taking a few more pictures for the instructions. The pattern cover will be next then I'll put it all together to make available to sell.

The Marley pattern will have lots of options to change the look. I am looking forward to seeing what customers do with it. I've gotten many pictures of items made with my patterns and the talent, creativity and ideas are awesome. I love getting pictures and hearing from customers.

I have been having two things on the top of my "bucket" list for a long time - a trip to Italy and granchildren. I had the opportunity to travel to Italy this past Maywhile there received the news that I am going to be a grandma in mid January. Yesterday we found out it is a girl!!! Time to start sewing!!!!

Football Season Approaching

My "adopted" grandchild is having her 3rd birthday party this weekend. I decided to make her something for the upcoming football season. I made the Riley top and Karen Capri Pants for her LSU outfit and McKensie dress for the Saints. I decided her little sister needed a matching LSU dress so I made one for her also.

The fleur di lis fabric is a new print by Fabric Finders in black & gold and purple & gold. The coordinating fabrics are also Fabric Finders.

This past weekend we did a photo shoot with some of my designs. Although it was warm out, the models were great. I am very blessed with many friends who have precious children to model for me.

I am trying to learn how to take better photos and had the opportunity to shoot some of the pictures. It was a great learning experience and much fun.

I recently helped design a dance costume for my friend who runs the Tippy Toes Studio. I used an adjusted Karen Capri halter top pattern. Instead of straps, I used black ribbon and instead of fabric ties, I used black tulle tied in a bow in the back. They wore them over the shiny gold leotards. Here is a picture of the class. They not only looked great but danced great also.

McKensie Pattern now available in my Etsy Store. McKensie is a quick project that allows you to be creative. Great for some embroidery on the bodice, pocket or band. For a simpler look, the pocket and/or band can be eliminated.

This pattern takes very little fabric so is great to clean out some of those small pieces in your stash.

Italy Vacation

I just returned from a vacation in Italy. It was an incredible trip, something I've wanted to do for 10 years. While in Italy, I visited the island of Burano, known for lace. Burano is one of the many islands around Venice.

These are the items I purchased. I have a Christening gown that I sewed, my mom embroidered and my grandmother did the hand work on. All three of my children were baptized in it. I decided to purchase a bib from Burano to go along with the gown.

I also purchased lace by the yard. I don't have plans for it yet, but I'm sure I can find a special use for it.

My mom is 84 years old and could not make the trip so my daughter brought a picture of her when she was younger and we took pictures of it at all the places we visited. I plan to make her a photo book with all the pictures. It will be a surprise. These are a couple of the pictures we took with my mom's picture as well as a few others from the trip.

New Pattern, McKensie, Preview

Here is a preview of my new pattern, McKensie. It's a simple dress but has lots of possiblities to be creative. Using different combinations of fabrics, trims and embroidery can change the look. It is an easy pattern that sews together quickly. You'll want to make several. Since it is a jumper style dress, it can be used for all seasons.

The pattern has been sent to the testers and I am hoping to have it available to purchase by the end of June.
I am very fortunate to have friends with precious little girl's that model for me. She enjoyed the photo shoot and was very cooperative. Isn't she adorable. You may recognize her from the cover of a couple of my other patterns.

Karesa Dress Customer Creations

Just got these awesome pictures from one of the military moms. She used the Karesa Dress Pattern.

She added the wide band along the bottom. This is a great way to use smaller pieces of fabric from your stash. If you don't have quite enough for the length, just add a band of another fabric along the bottom. It is also a great way to add another fabric and some contrast.

She also made her daughter's baby doll a matching outfit. So cute!

I had a little visitor this past Sunday and she was wearing the Karesa Dress I made for her. Enjoyed the visit with her and her grandma (TNu).

Customer Creation to Help a Friend

This customer made these outfits for a friend who's house was demolished in a tornado last week. Fortunately they were in the cellar and unharmed. Her friend wanted camo outfits for her husband's Army basic graduation.

J, is a very busy miltary wife also but made the time to bless her friend with these.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the recent tornados and flooding.

Another adorable outfit from one of the military moms I've been sending packages too. This mom has been making some great summer outfits for her daughter. Isn't she a doll.

She added elastic at the hem of the pants for a bloomer look instead of capri pants. Great idea, especially for younger children.

More Shorts

All Brands has some new boy fabric so I made a couple of pairs of Betsey/Joey Shorts to display in the Baton Rouge store. One is reversible and one is non reversible. I used the longer length version of the pattern for both.

This jpic shows the reversed side. The longer version works the best if a cuff is desired.

The past week I've also made a couple of drafts for new patterns. The first design didn't work out like I wanted but the second design has some promise. My desire is to make a dress that is simple but also able to give the sewer a chance to be creative with trims, fabrics and embroidery.

APIL TBall

APIL (Ascension Parish Inclusive League) Tball season begin Aprl 10th and what a great start. Lots of new participants plus returning participants from last year. The field has been improved and by next week we should have a fence around it and dugouts.

We have been blessed with awesome volunteers. Ascension Catholic Softball team has been a huge help to the program. A couple of track students from St. Amant High School also joined us last week. One of the children's grandparent's also helped out running home plate .

It is so great to see the program growing and everyone enjoying themselves - children and adults. Here are a few pictures from out last couple of games.

APIL's field is at St. Amant Park on Stringer Bridge Road in St. Amant. Games are on Saturday Mornings at 10AM. Come join us. Only a few more games left.

This is another outfit made from the packages I sent to Humphrey's Base. This little model is the daughter of my contact there who has organized the requests and deliveries. What a cutie! Loving the hand on the hip pose.

I recently connected with a military wife stationed in South Korea through an Etsy purchase from my shop. With her help and to show appreciation for the sacrifice that the military personnel and their families make, I started a project to send patterns and fabric to her and other military sewers on their base. It is such a fun and rewarding project to be able to share with these ladies. These are some pictures of the outfits they made with the items I sent.

I needed larger size patterns so I contacted a couple of other pattern designers and they were happy to contribute to the project. Thanks go to Carla who put together a package of some patterns and fabric from her designs and her collaboration with Jennifer Paganelli. Aimee at Sew Sensible also donated patterns for the project.

One of my Louisiana customers sent me this picture using a shortened version of the Ava Sundress as a top to wear with shorts. What a cute short set this made with the bright colors and applique.

After the cold winter we have had, even here in the South, I am ready for some Spring weather and that means Spring sewing. I seem to have more energy and inspiration when the sun is shining, flowers and trees begin to bud and days are longer. My biggest problem is trying to decide what fabric to use with so many bright and colorful choices.

These are a few of my recent fabric purchases.

The two on the left are Robert Kaufman-s Monaluna Mod Bird by Jennifer Moore. Two in the middle are Moda Smore Marshmallow Cream Swirls and Pink Polka Dots and the one on the right is Amy Schimler Confections Cupcakes and Flowers.

These are a couple of pictures from the testers of the Karesa Pattern. Thank you testers for your comments and pictures.

Thanks also to Joni for taking the pictures for my cover and allowing her little one to be my model. She has 3 daughters that I adore and call my "adopted granddaughters".

Karesa Dress Pattern in sizes 1 through 4 is a sleeveless dress with a gathered skirt that buttons down the back and has a contrasting waistband and optional collar.

Here is my new pattern - Karesa. It was sent to testers last night and should be available in a couple of weeks. The model is one of my "adopted" grandchildren. Her mom is a photographer and took some pictures for me. She is such a cute little model, it's hard for me to choose which picture to use for the cover. I'll post it when the final pattern is ready to sell.

Blizzard on the Bayou/Haiti Update/New Pattern

I intended to work on the new pattern today but got sidetracked by the snow. It was called "Blizzard on the Bayou". It was so pretty watching huge snowflakes fall for about 2 hours, even sticking to the ground for a little while. This all happened earlier in the morning and by noon there was no evidence left of the "blizzard".

My neice returned from a week in Haiti with a medical team and said it was an awesome experience and happy to have had the opportunity to help.

I started working on the instructions of the new pattern but had to revise it based on the fabric width. The original design was cut using 60" wide fabric but the one I am using for instructions is 45" wide. It made a difference in how the skirt is cut so I had to revise it to adjust for the difference in cutting and fabric requirements.

I'll be teaching a class at All Brands in Baton Rouge at the end of the month using the Annette Reversible Sundress Pattern. It was my first pattern and still one of the most popular. Check out their website for other sewing and embroidery classes.

Baton Rouge Residents Work to Assist Haitians

Baton Rouge orthopedic surgeon Dr. Craig Greene said the sea of victims in Haiti who need surgery was “just overwhelming” when he arrived in the earthquake-ravaged country.
“You just needed to take it all in,” said Greene, who returned from Haiti earlier this week. “It was trying to figure out what we needed to do next while at the same time we were trying to get folks taken care of.”
Greene is trying to put together volunteer medical teams — generally six-member teams of doctors, nurses and physical and occupational therapists — to go to Haiti, work for a week, and then be replaced by another team.
His efforts are among the many Haiti relief plans being coordinated by Baton Rouge area volunteers.
Greene said his effort, nicknamed the Greene Team, is just now beginning to find a rhythm.
“But there are still gaps to fill,” he said.
One of the primary focuses of the team is to not only perform surgery on the victims — many of whom had bone-crushing wounds — but to also offer follow-up care, he said.
“We don’t want to just operate on them and then leave,” he said. “There is a lot of follow-up care these people need in order to get their lives back.
Greene is headed back to Haiti on Sunday to fine-tune his efforts, which have turned into a family and local community affair.
His mother, Cathy Greene, who is fluent in French, is also headed to Haiti this week.
She is spearheading the BR2Haiti project, which is trying to recruit medical team volunteers and get them desperately needed medical supplies.
Stacie Greene, Cathy Greene’s sister-in-law, is serving as the medical supply coordinator.
“I’m trying to procure the supplies, get them packaged and just get them to Haiti,” she said. “We’ve heard of horror stories of this stuff just sitting on the tarmac with no one getting them.”
Stacie Greene said she is trying to work on clearing barriers, particularly bureaucratic barriers.
One of the problems the group is encountering is that U.S. Customs agents will allow them to ship only $2,500 worth of medications per airplane.
“We’re working hard to get them to lift that limit,” Stacie Greene said. “$2,500 worth of medicine is not very much, especially for a patient who has had surgery.”
The group is trying to send one plane a week to Haiti loaded with medical supplies.
Warner Anderson, assistant dean of international education and a Spanish professor at Southern University, and Kristan Gordon, coordinator for service learning at Southern, initiated a project to raise supplies for Haitians just days after the earthquake.
“We focused mainly on the needs of the children,” Anderson said. “They are always the most vulnerable in a disaster.”
Anderson and Gordon collected more than 400 boxes of baby formula, food, lotion, wipes and disposable diapers, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizer, insect repellent, clothes and shoes.
“We had an enormous response from churches, organizations on campus and individuals,” he said.
But then it came time to start figuring out how to get the boxes shipped to Haiti.
“And that’s when I found Stacie Greene,” he said.
He learned from Greene that U.S. Customs requires all of the supplies to be packaged in clear plastic bags, sealed with gray duct tape, labeled by content and then weighed.
The job of repacking 400 large boxes was enormous, but volunteers stepped forward from the university and Victory Baptist Church in Plaquemine to help.
“It was a daunting task, but we’re committed to doing this,” Anderson said.
The bags will be delivered to BR2Haiti, and Stacie Greene will have them loaded onto one of the project’s donated airplanes and shipped to Haiti.
Julie Baxter, an attorney with Rhorer Law Firm, is president of the new 25-member Capital City Rotary Club.
“We raised $1,000 to buy a Shelter Box,” Baxter said.
But then her club asked the other two Rotary Clubs in Baton Rouge to raise money as a citywide Rotary effort.
Between the Capital Area, Baton Rouge and Sunrise Rotary clubs, they’ve raised $14,550, which will pay for nearly 15 Shelter Boxes — which include tents, stoves, cooking pots, plates and utensils and food to shelter and feed 10 people for 30 days.
Virgin Airlines has agreed to fly the Shelter Boxes to Haiti.
“Shelter Boxes are basically the best relief you can send to a disaster stricken area,” Baxter said. “It provides 10 people with shelter and with the stove and the food it comes with, you can prepare meals.”
She said Baton Rouge residents were generous when the group asked for donations.
“Baton Rouge never balks at giving immediately when something happens,” she said. “I think it’s the time when you feel the proudest of this city.”

New Pattern

I've started working on a new pattern and I was ready to start making a few tests. It just wasn't coming out like I envisioned so I'm making a couple of changes. The new design will be a simpler design and I believe will work out better than the original. We'll see when I start making more.

It's year end at my Accounting day job, so I haven't had as much time as I'd like to work on the pattern. Hopefully things will slow down in the next couple of weeks and I can get back to it.

Of course, I did find the time to stop at All Brands and buy more fabric. You can never have too much. I'm waiting to see the new fleur di lis fabric that is supposed to come in soon. With the Saints in the Super Bowl, I'm sure I can find something to do with it.

APIL's 1st Basketball Game of 2010

APIL (Ascension Parish Inclusive League) had the first basketball game of the 2010 season today as part of the AYBA (Ascension Youth Basketball Association) program. Jerseys were handed out and pictures taken.

Everyone had a great time and learned some of the basic basketball terminology and skills. APIL is scheduled to play at Galvez Middle School at 10AM during the AYBA season.

APIL is a non-competitive inclusive recreation league for children with or without disabilities (ages 4-13) to participate together in recreational activities and games.

New Year Sewing Projects

I started the New Year off by sewing a few samples to display at the All Brands Baton Rouge store.

This one was made using the Emily Dress Pattern from a Michael Miller print called Malibu Flamingo. It was made in honor of the Baton Rouge Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade with flamingos being the 2010 theme. The lining and inserts from Fabric Finder's pink/white check fabric.

To keep with the Mardi Gras theme, this outfit was made using the Annette Reversible Sundress pattern for the top (shortened a little) and Karen Capri Pants. The embroidery design was a free download from All Brands Sew Forum, (this post). There are some very talented digitizers that share these awesome designs. The green fabric is Fabric Finder's pique and the frog print is by Timeless Treasures.

Using the frog print on the reversed side of the top allows this outfit to be worn after Mardi Gras as a fun play outfit..

This one was made in the Easter theme, which by the way will be early this year so it's never too early to get started.

Made from the Sunny Wrap Dress pattern using Fabric Finder's green pique and lined with pink/white check. The bunny applique is also a free download from sew forum by Five Star Fonts.

I'm ready to start sewing again and working on some new ideas for patterns. My new projects are some samples to display in the All Brands Baton Rouge store. Mardi Gras and Easter are the themes and I'll post pictures when I'm done.

Here is an adorable customer creation made by this precious little girl's mom using the Emily Dress Pattern and Metro Market print by Robert Kaufman. This fun print is one of my favorites, fun and whimsical, and looks great for the Emily Dress.

It was theme day at the middle school where my daughters teach. Today was "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas". This is what they came up with and wore to school!! Today Santa visited my neighborhood complete with sirens, music and lights.

Christmas is such a wonderful time of year. Along with the traditions, gift giving and decorations, I love seeing people caring and giving to others. Even though the rush and stress can bring out the worst in some, it also brings out the best in others. I hear many stories during this time of generosity and kindness. It's is very heart warming and inspiring. Remember to slow down and enjoy the season and spread God's love and blessing with others.

I always get in a little bit of a panic after Thanksgiving. It seems Christmas is so close and I have so many projects I would like to complete along with decorating, cooking, and the usual stuff like working, washing clothes, cleaning house........

I've been determined to try and get some of the sewing projects done this week. Here are a few pictures of some of the items I've been working on.

I made two of these for 2 little Saints fans. They were made using the Annette Reversible Sundress Pattern.

These were made for sisters using the David Pattern. The pattern was designed for boys but as you can see, works well for girls also.

I added a snowflake to the bottom of the pants leg.

It's hard to see in the picture, but I added their names in the bottom of the snowman.

Flat Iron Holder for a Christmas Party. We are bringing handmade gifts to exchange. I printed the pattern and rolled it up to include with the gift.

David is a simple pants pattern with a bib insert. David has an elastic waist with straps that are inserted through loops and button in the back at the waist. Contrasting fabric for the bib insert make a unique look as well as a canvas for a monogram or embroidery design. With the right choice of fabric, ruffle or time and this pattern could easily be used for girls. j

2009 Blue Cross of Louisiana Angel Award Banquet

Last night we attended the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Angel Award Banquet that honored the 8 winners of the 2009 Angel Ward. After cocktails and a delicious meal, a slideshow presentation was shown for each winner describing their organization. The Mistress of Ceremony, Supriya Jindal (wife of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal), asked each winner a question and then presented them with the $20,000 check and a trophy.

The organizations represented were awesome. The stories they told were inspiring and motivational.

Here is the list of winners from the Blue Cross Website . Check them out if you get a chance and maybe one will inspire to to contribute to them or do something in your community.

A committee of past recipients of the Angel Award, now in its 15th year, considered 62 nominations from throughout the state before selecting Betsey Baldwin of Gonzales, Vicki Ellis of Baton Rouge, Jill Rigby Garner of Baton Rouge, Lynn Hobbs-Green of New Orleans, Janet Leslie of Maurepas, Jean McManus of Eunice, Minh Nguyen of New Orleans and Philip Thomas of Monroe.

In an effort to promote diversity and inclusion, Baldwin founded the Ascension Parish Inclusion League, an outlet for children with and without disabilities to enjoy recreational activities together. The Inclusion League enhances self-esteem and promotes acceptance, understanding and friendship by creating an atmosphere that values diversity.

A visit to a Tennessee children's crisis home when she was 14 spurred Ellis to found Heritage Ranch. Heritage Ranch serves suspended and expelled youth enrolled in alternative school programs in East Baton Rouge and West Feliciana parishes through extensive, holistic Life Skills programming developed by Ellis.

For 20 years, Garner has dedicated herself to transforming the hearts of children. Her program, Manners of the Heart, focuses on teaching children to be "self giving" instead of "self serving." The statewide program has served hundreds of children through classroom instruction, high school trainings, summer camp activities, teacher workshops and parenting seminars.

When her son's teammate was labeled incompetent, Hobbs-Green thought perhaps it was a vision problem. In helping him, the mental health social worker found her second calling. She founded The Eyes Have It, a non-profit organization that provides free eye screenings, examinations and eyeglasses for children at their schools.

Leslie's daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in 1986. After a long and taxing battle with the disease, Jennifer died in 2001. The Leslies struggle provided the impetus to found The JL Foundation, an organization providing assistance to Louisiana leukemia patients and their families through plane tickets, gas cards, meals and lodging while undergoing treatment at cancer centers and hospitals across the country.

Retired 78-year-old teacher McManus was seeking a way to battle the low literacy level in Eunice. She found the answer in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program that provides a book to each registered child monthly from birth to 5 years of age. McManus has enrolled 80 percent of the community's children in the program.

New Orleans, Nguyen founded the Vietnamese American Young Leaders Association of New Orleans (VAYLA-NO). The organization is dedicated to empowering Vietnamese Americans and other underrepresented youth through services, cultural enrichment and social change.

Thomas founded Pilots for Patients, a volunteer organization that provides free air travel for patients needing medical attention, as well as transportation for blood, tissues, organs and medical supplies. Pilots for Patients has 56 participating volunteer pilots who use privately-owned aircraft without any compensation and has just completed their 300th mission.

Busy Week

It always seems that things all happen together. I don't normally have tons of things going on in the same week but sometimes it just happens like that. This week was one of those weeks. No time for sewing or other routine things like washing clothes and housework but that's OK, it's been fun.

Last weekend I was able to get my new pattern "David" out to testers. I'm hoping to have it available in a few weeks.

Tuesday night I enjoyed some great food at Mike Anderson's in Gonzales with co-workers - baked potato soup, salad, Shrimp Norman and a chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. Great food, great company and great weather.

Wednesday night I had dinner with my two daughters and some of their friends at Chili's to celebrate my middle daughter's birthday. She turned 26 today. Happy Birthday Betsey.

Tonight we are attending a banquet sponsored by Blue Cross to honor the recipients of the Angel Award. My daughter was one of the winners this year. I'll post pictures after. I am so proud of her.

This weekend I plan to take cover pictures for the new pattern and finalize items for the Holiday Mart scheduled for November 14th.

The weather has been beautiful here in South Louisiana. Nice cool nights and mild days. We don't get many days like these so we enjoy them when we get them.

Besides that LSU and Saints football is a big event here and looking forward to spending time with family and friends for the holidays.

I do have to say that I don't like the time change. I don't like it getting dark so early. I need more sunshine!!! I think we should do away with daylight savings time all together. Anyone else agree?

Angel Award Check Presentation at Ascension Parish Council Meeting

Tonight was a very special and proud moment for me as a mom. My daughter, Betsey, was presented with a $20,000 check from Blue Cross as a recipient of the Angel Award at the Ascension Parish Council Meeting. Some of the APIL program participants, Ion, Mila, Nemo and Luke, were there to support Betsey and the program. Parish President Tommy Martinez, who nominated Betsey for the award, made the presentation along with Blue Cross Representatives. We are very grateful to Blue Cross, Ascension Parish Recreation, volunteers and the children who are involved in the program for making it such a success.

A non profit organization, Annette's Angel Foundation, has been created to administer the award money. It will be used to support APIL (Ascension Parish Inclusive League) as well as help promote inclusive, non competitive recreation for people with or without disabilities.

I made the first set of dresses for my great niece's two girls. They wore them to a family function and another niece really liked them. She asked me to make these for her two girls - also my great nieces. Of course I said yes.

These dresses go together very fast. They are lined in the green check used on the applique and can be reversed. Change the ribbons and you have a whole new look.

Made from Annette Reversible Sundress pattern. Both of the fabrics used are by Fabric Finders. The font is Bobo Applique font I downloaded free from sewforum.com. The only problem I had was it went from the outline stitch directly to the satin stitch. All I did to resolve the problem was make the first outline stitch, lay the fabric down for the applique and just backed it up one thread color to redo the outline stitch. Sundress with music notes applique

It's been raining all weekend which is great for sewing. I got this dress done and a couple of other miscellaneous projects for my niece.

The little girl this was made for loves music and the color yellow. I had a bit of a problem with the stitching on the first try so I added some fusible interfacing to the dress fabric and applique fabric. The second try stitched out really well. I'm still new at the embroidery and machine applique so I learn as I go and from trial and error - lots of error. LOL.

The dress is made from the Annette Reversible Sundress Pattern. It is reversible - the other side is a tourquoise, yellow and white floral print.

Whimsical Cow Print Capri Set

I enjoy searching for unique and different fabrics to sew with. While browsing through the fabric shops on Etsy, I found this cute cow print. The shop is located in Turkey so the order took a couple of weeks to come in but the bonus was a yard measures 36" X 95" which is like two yards. Along with this green print, I also purchased a yard of the same print in red.

The top is made from the Annette Reversible Sundress pattern shortened a little and the pants are Karen Capri Pants with an added border along the hem.
